El programa de la teoría genético-estructural es descendiente de la teoría piagetiana. Ha realizado la tarea que Piaget intentó llevar a cabo sin éxito. Él quería estudiar la niñez para entender mejor la historia de la mente, la ciencia, la filosofía y la cultura. El nuevo programa ha mostrado que la historia global de la cultura, la sociedad, la política, la ley, la moral, la ciencia, la filosofía, la religión y las artes han pasado por las mismas etapas que son conocidas gracias a la psicología del desarrollo. De acuerdo con lo anterior, los avances psicogenéticos han moldeado las trayectorias históricas de esos sistemas colectivos o fenómenos sociales. La aplicación de la psicología del desarrollo a la historia arroja también una nueva luz sobre la emergencia de la sociedad moderna industrial, minimizando enfoques que le compiten como el materialista, el institucionalista y el económico. Se sostiene que el nuevo programa hereda posturas trabajadas por Elias, Weber, Wundt, Cassirer y otros autores clásicos. Este no solo puede reconstruir las humanidades y las ciencias sociales, también las unifica bajo un techo común, derribando las fronteras que previamente separaban unas de las otras.Citas
